Screenagers Elementary Edition

Submitted by Jennifer Favalora, Haddam-Killingworth Youth and Family Services

(November 19, 2024) — We are all becoming increasingly aware of the impact of the Digital Age on the mental health of today’s youth.   The news, research studies, and experts are highlighting the importance of understanding the impact of the growing digital world on youth mental health to take steps together as families, schools, and communities. We love and appreciate the advances of today’s digital landscape, but families, communities, and professionals around the country are becoming increasingly concerned about the impact on our kids.  Awareness, education, and access to resources can be the best prevention!

Parents/Caregivers of children from Birth to 5th grade, as well as any interested community members, are encouraged to attend the “Screenagers: Elementary Edition” film viewing, followed by a panel discussion with HKYFS staff, Regional School District 17 Principals, and local mental health experts. We will be offering resources and future opportunities to learn more and take action to help Haddam and Killingworth youth.

The earlier we understand what has happened and can develop family and community strategies, the earlier we can work together to strategize individual and community wide change.

The film is also appropriate for children K-5 to view as a means of opening up family communication and strategies for well-being.
