The HK Community Support Team (HKCST) is a group of human service professionals, volunteers, and community members who care about the success of our community’s youth.

Our team believes your mistakes and experiences do not define you and every youth and family have unique circumstances and thus deserve unique and individualized support.

We are here to support juvenile cases, self-referrals for community case management, and truancy issues.   Our goal is to help turn challenging situations into opportunities for growth and a better future.

The HK Community Support Team offers three distinct services to HK youth and families.

The community-based diversion process provides an alternative to court for first time offenders.   Diversion in HK offers a supportive way of working with young people to repair harm caused in the incident, outside of the court room.  We address underlying issues and believe this process gives us the best chance to focus on accountability, conflict resolution, repairing relationships, and to work with youth to resolve the situation and support long-term success.

JRB members include town officials, police, active community members, representatives from schools, court support services, and youth and family services.   The youth’s personal connections are welcome to join to help develop a collaborative plan.   JRB proceedings are confidential.

  1. HK Truancy Support:

The HKCST provides a court alternative to support youth who are missing school and considered by law “truant”.   HKYFS offers a family assessment and can help connect to support services and positive youth development programs that may assist in the youth attending school on a more regular basis.

Note:  This process is for school staff referrals only.

The HKCST offers a voluntary service to help connect youth and families to services, support, and resources.   The SRT process offers a space for families to share the challenges they are facing with a small support team who are experts in local resources.  The goal of the FST is to work together to identify options that might be helpful to the family.   Anyone can refer and the Family Support Team can be used to help youth as young as 5 and as old as a high schooler.

Families can self-referral to the FST by calling HKYFS at 860-345-7498
