What's Involved?
Making the safe home pact means you agree to the following guidelines:
- You agree to be present when your child hosts parties or social gatherings in your home.
- You will not serve nor will knowingly allow minor guests to consume alcohol or other drugs in your home or on your property.
Parties Your Kids Are Giving
- Expect and encourage calls from parents of teens confirming the party time and place.
- Inform parents and teens that there will be no alcohol or drugs permitted in your home or on your property.
- Plan on being home during the entire party and exercise proper supervision.
- Inform teens that leaving and then returning to the party will not be permitted.
- Teens who arrive at the party under the influence can expect their parents to be called.
- Know who is invited. Enforce a NO CRASHING policy!
Parties Your Kids Are Going To
- Call the parents of the party giver to:
-verify the occasion
-make sure a parent will be home
-be sure that alcohol and other drugs will not be permitted.
- Before your child leaves for the party, agree upon a specific time your child will return home.
- Know how your teen will get to and from the party, and if needed, be available to provide transportation.
- Tell your kids to NEVER to ride home with a driver who has been drinking or is under the influence of drugs. Instruct them to call you for a ride if needed.
- Be awake, or be sure to have them awaken you when they arrive home.
- Avoid spontaneous “sleep-overs” when possible.
